PDLC smart film for meeting room privacy
WINGO ·

A practical guide to self-adhesive PDLC smart film for meeting rooms, covering privacy control, installation planning, limitations, and project checks.
What PDLC smart film does
PDLC smart film is a self-adhesive switchable film applied to an existing window or glass partition. In its opaque state, it provides visual privacy while still allowing light to pass through. When powered, it becomes transparent, preserving daylight and an open sense of space. For meeting rooms, this allows the same glazed area to serve as a private discussion space or a transparent, collaborative setting.
The film can be controlled through a switch, remote, or app, depending on the control system selected for the project. It is also suitable for creating switchable partitions where privacy needs change during the day. Because it is self-adhesive, it can be fitted to new or existing glass without specialist installation equipment, subject to suitable glass and application conditions.
Choosing privacy and light-control states
Start by defining what each meeting-room state should look like. The opaque state is useful for confidential discussions, interviews, presentations, and private meetings. The transparent state is useful when the room needs visual connection with the surrounding office or when daylight and openness are important.
PDLC film should be considered a privacy solution, not a complete acoustic treatment. It changes the visibility of the glass but does not by itself provide sound isolation, speech privacy, or a fully enclosed meeting environment. If the room requires quiet, existing wall, glass, and door performance should be reviewed separately. A sales specialist should also confirm whether the selected film, glass configuration, and control arrangement meet the intended use.
Planning the installation
Measure every glazed panel, including its width, height, edge clearances, and orientation. Self-adhesive PDLC smart film is available in different widths and can be cut to fit the panel or custom shapes. Multiple pieces can also be joined to create larger switchable glazed areas or partitions. Tell WINGO whether the project involves standard windows, doors, internal partitions, or several connected panels so that the layout can be assessed correctly.
The film includes a self-adhesive layer and protective outer films. It must be connected to the electrical installation, so a qualified installer should prepare the power, switching, and control arrangement. Before ordering, confirm whether the glass is suitable for application, whether any existing coatings or films are present, and whether the room has a dedicated control location. The final installation sequence should follow the supplier’s instructions for cleaning, alignment, connection, and handling.
Important limitations to consider
Privacy is strongest when the film is opaque, but the appearance and light transmission of the installed assembly depend on the glass, lighting, viewing angle, and surrounding reflections. It is useful to review a sample or mock-up before applying film across an entire meeting room. The opaque state is not identical to a blind: light remains visible through the film, even though the view is obscured.
PDLC smart film should not be treated as a safety component, security barrier, emergency-warning device, or heat-control solution without project-specific review. The supplier must confirm suitability for the intended glass type, panel dimensions, operating environment, electrical arrangement, and cleaning method. Sales should also clarify the expected appearance, control options, maintenance needs, and any project-specific preparation requirements before the order is approved.
Questions to ask before ordering
Ask WINGO to confirm the recommended film and control package for the meeting-room layout. Useful questions include: Which panel dimensions and glass conditions are acceptable? Is the intended use internal partitions, existing glazing, or new glazed panels? Can the film be trimmed around a specific frame or handle? What power and switching arrangement are required? How should the film be cleaned and maintained? And are there any limitations relating to the room’s lighting or the expected visual effect?
For a multi-panel project, confirm how adjacent pieces will be joined, where the controller will be installed, and whether remote or app control is required. It is also sensible to review the complete room concept, including privacy expectations, daylight requirements, signage, and any need for additional blinds or curtains.
